In this study, the well-known Danish group performed pelvic magnetic resonance (MR) imaging on 32 patients with persistent postherniorrhaphy pain over one year after unilateral or bilateral hernia repair using polypropylene mesh. A control group was comprised of six pain-free, postherniotomy patients. All MRI examinations were reviewed independently by two radiologists blinded to the clinical details. The radiologists were asked to comment on a number of imaging findings, including appearance of the mesh, evidence of spermatic cord pathology, and presence of inflammatory changes. The primary endpoint was interobserver agreement, and the secondary endpoint included presence and description of MR findings.
